La rentrée 2023 - Curriculum and Goals

It's that time of year! Tomorrow the teachers in my employing district go back to work, and on Thursday, the students will return. This year I will teach French levels 1-4 (equivalent of language KS3-GCSE for my UK colleagues), which is A LOT of work. A LOT. 

I've tweaked my curriculum guides a bit for the year, and as always, they are flexible because I am not a content area with state or national required exams, so I can make things work best for the students in my classroom. We will be meeting 5 days a week for 45 minutes each class; the school year is divided into four quarters of approximately nine weeks each. As has been the case for several years, I am leaning heavily on EPI and the Language Gym resources while incorporating authentic resources and cultural lessons in line with Ohio and national standards. My assessments generally look like IPAs or part of one (Integrated Performance Assessment).

(French 4 is still a work in progress - it will be mostly native speakers and so I'm leaving some flexibility to adapt to their needs and interests)

My goals for this year are the following:

- To maintain work - life balance so my health is preserved and I can enjoy as much time with my son as possible during his last year of high school 

- To emphasize listening skills in Level 1 as much as possible by implementing EPI more faithfully

- To continue my efforts to provide differentiated instruction so that all my students feel both challenged and successful

-To continue my work on decentering metropolitan France in our studies of culture

-To blog more often!
